They took a clear stand against genocide.
Why it matters
Coop Alleanza 3.0 and Unicoop Firenze have decided to remove Israeli products from its shelves. Not selling Israeli goods is not only a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian people, but also helps reduce profits for companies that pay taxes used to fund the genocide.
The cooperative also supports the “Coop For Refugees” campaign and has introduced Gaza Cola, a Palestinian beverage whose proceeds help fund the reconstruction of a hospital in Gaza.
These decisions show that the large-scale retail sector can take a stand, break the status quo, and pave the way for others to follow.
